BIOGRAPHY

With great interest the musical world is following the development of Luca Pfaff's career; indeed he is one of the most versatile and interesting conductors of his generation in terms of having an extremely wide repertoire and innovative programs to offer.

Luca Pfaff has conducted the most important European orchestras including the French, Belgian, Spanish, Greek National Orchestras, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Südwestfunk, Bamberg, BBC, Northern Philharmonia, La Monnaie de Bruxelles, Bergen-, Helsinki- Philharmonic, Tonhalle-Zurich, Suisse Romande, RAI-Rome, Milan, Turin, Santa Cecilia-Rome, Spanish Broadcasting, Montecarlo, Ensemble Intercontemporain etc. and has conducted at the following Festivals: Helsinki, Lucerne, Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Strasbourg, the Venice-Biennale, Helsinki-Biennale and others.

1987-1996 he has been musical director of the "Orchestre Symphonique du Rhin", to which he has contributed remarkable dynamism in conducting original works both symphonic and lyrical at Strassburg, Colmar and Mulhouse.

From 1997 he led Masterclasses at the "Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique" in Paris. He also founded and conducted the Alternance Ensemble in Paris. In 1990 he has been appointed conductor of the CARME Ensemble of Milan and 1992-94 was first guest conductor of the RAI-Orchestra in Turin (Italy).

His last recordings dedicated to Bartok, Sibelius, Mozart (Gran Partita), Scelsi, Donatoni and Dusapin have won highest critical acclaim.

He conducted the first performance of works by Berio, Bussotti, Cage, Castiglioni, Denisov, Donatoni, Fedele, Feldmann, R.Gerhard, Gorecki, Guerrero, Höller, Ligeti, Lindberg, Maderna, Manoury, Marco, Nunes, de Pablo, Petrassi, Reich, Schnittke, Scelsi, Taira, Tippett, Takemitsu, Xenakis and many others.
