BIOGRAPHY Max Bragado-Darman Orchestra Conductor Max Bragado-Darman, born in Madrid, Spain, for nine years was Music Director and Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Castile and León since its formation in 1991. Ever since this orchestra's first concert, the reaction of the public and the critics was extremely positive not only in the orchestra's home city of Valladolid, but also in all the major cities of Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany. Under his direction, this ensemble recorded many unknown works of the Spanish repertoire such as symphonies by Bretón, Chapí and Marqués, as well as most of the orchestral works of Turina and Rodrigo under the Naxos label. The orchestra has also recorded all of the works for cello and orchestra by Alberto Ginastera with his wife, Aurora Anatola, as soloist, as well as many works of the traditional repertoire. He has worked with distinguished artists such as Alicia de Larrocha, Teresa Berganza, Horatio Gutierrez, Elmar Oliveira, Anne Akiko Myers, Andre Watts, Reiko Watanabe, Mark Seltzer, Jard Van Ness, Angel Romero, Gary Graffman, Dickran Atamian and Aaron Rosand, among others. The newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine" compared this ensemble with several of Europe's most important orchestras and said "The pearls of this concert were highlighted to such a degree that the orchestra maintained the public electrified from beginning to end." In May of 1995, Max Bragado-Darman was appointed Music Director and Conductor of The Louisville Orchestra (Kentucky). Under his direction, the orchestra grew in popularity due to his rapport with audiences, the public in general, and his innovative programming of works combining theater with music, such as Berlioz' "Lelio" and Mendelsohn's "Midsummer Night's Dream". As guest conductor, Max Bragado-Darman has performed with the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Honolulu, San Diego, Nashville, Cleveland, Delaware, Cedar Rapids, Savannah, Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Austin, Monterey, Colorado Music Festival, Boulder Symphony orchestras in the US, the London Symphony, the National Orchestra of Mexico, the National Orchestra, the Radio Television Orchestra and most of the other orchestras of Spain, the National Orchestra and the San Carlos Theater Orchestra of Portugal, the Rhenish Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany, and the St. Galen Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland. This season he will be conducting the National Orchestra and Radio Television Orchestras of Spain in addition to concerts with the Symphonic Orchestra of Madrid celebrating the visit of Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations to the Royal Theater of Madrid, the Cordoba Symphony, the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and the Malaga Symphony. He also will be returning to conduct the "Concerto Grosso" Chamber Orchestra in Frankfurt, Germany, The Louisville Orchestra and the Monterey Symphony in the United States, and will be making his debut at the Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland. As a professional conductor in former years, he has held positions as Music Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Grand Canary, Spain, the Concerto Grosso Orchestra of Frankfurt, Germany and the Queen Sofia Chamber Orchestra of Madrid. He was founder and Music Director of the Classic Chamber Orchestra of New York and the conductor of the Mozart Opera Festival in Bronxville, New York, where extremely successful productions of "Don Giovanni" and "Cosi Fan Tutte" were performed. Trained as a pianist, Max Bragado-Darman graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Madrid and chose to continue his studies in the United States at Oberlin College where he received a Bachelor of Music Degree in piano and a Masters Degree in orchestral conducting. At the University of Michigan, he combined post graduate work with his position as Assistant Conductor of the University of Michigan Orchestras and Associate Conductor of the Michigan Youth symphony Orchestra. As part of his studies, he also worked with Igor Markevitch in Monaco as well as with Franco Ferrara, Boris Goldovsky, Theo Alcántara, Robert Page and Robert Baustian. He was finalist in the orchestral conducting competition at Besançon, France. Max Bragado-Darman is married to Mary Elizabeth Young, born in Princeton, New Jersey, and they have a son, Julio, who is a dancer in The American Ballet Theater, and a daughter, Ilia, who is working and studying Liberal Arts, both living in New York City.

y crítica desde un principio fue totalmente positiva no solamente
en su sede de Valladolid sino también en las principales ciudades
de España, destacándose Sevilla durante la Expo '92, El Festival
Internacional de Santander, Barcelona y Madrid donde la orquesta ha actuado
en varias ocasiones. En 1998, recibió una ovación clamorosa
por su actuación en Lisboa durante la Exposición Internacional.
Bajo su dirección, esta orquesta ha grabado muchas obras del repertorio Desde 1995 a 1998 fue Director Titular de la Orquesta de Louisville, EE.UU. donde se destacó por una programación innovadora que incluía obras contemporáneas y obras donde se combinaba el teatro con la música como el "Lelio" de Berlioz y el "Sueño de Una Noche de Verano" de Mendelssohn. Ha sido director titular de las siguientes orquestas: Juvenil de Nashville, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad Estatal de Ohio, Orquesta Sinfónica y de Cámara del "Cleveland Institute of Music", la Orquesta Sinfónica de Gran Canaria, "Concerto Grosso" de Frankfurt, Alemania y de la "Classic Chamber Orchestra" de Nueva York. Ha colaborado con la Orquesta del Teatro San Carlos de Lisboa, la Sinfónica de Londres, Metropolitan de Nueva York Honolulu, San Diego, Nashville, Cleveland, Delaware, Cedar Rapids, Savannah, Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Austin, Monterey, Colorado Music Festival, Boulder Symphony en Estados Unidos. Otras orquestas con las que ha colaborado han sido la Orquesta Nacional de México, Filarmónica Renana en Alemania y la Sinfónica de St. Gallen en Suiza. En España, ha dirigido las orquestas más importantes del país. En 2002, destaca el estreno de la opera, "Maria del Carmen" de Enrique Granados bajo su dirección y el concierto en el Teatro Real de Madrid en honor del Secretario General de la O.N.U. y premio Nobel de la paz, Kofi Annan. Para la temporada 2002-2003 tiene previstas nuevas colaboraciones con La Orquesta Radio Televisión Española, Orquesta Sinfónica de Córdoba, Orquesta Sinfónica de Malaga y la J.O.N.D.E., y vuelve a colaborar con la orquesta "Concerto Grosso" de Frankfurt, "The Louisville Orchestra" y "The Monterey Symphony". En Noviembre efectuará su debut en el Festival de Ópera de Wexford (Irlanda). Graduado del Real Conservatorio de Madrid, continuó sus estudios de piano y dirección de orquesta en el Oberlin College Conservatory obteniendo el Bachelor of Music Degree en piano y el Masters Degree en dirección de orquesta de esta institución. Hizo estudios de post - grado en la Universidad de Michigan donde trabajó como asistente de las orquestas de la universidad y director asociado de la Orquesta Juvenil del Estado de Michigan. Max Bragado-Darman está casado con Mary Elizabeth Young, directora coral,
nacida en Princeton, New Jersey, y tienen un hijo, Julio, que es bailarín
con "The American Ballet Theater", y una hija, Ilia, que trabaja y
estudia en Hunter College para obtener un título en "Artes Liberales",
ambos viviendo en Nueva York.
